Community Profile: SCENIC ATTRACTIONS

Phoenix International Raceway hosts many important auto races each year, including Copper World Classic in February, Phoenix 200 Indy in March, IMSA World Sports Cars in September, NASCAR Winston Cup Dura-Lube 500 in October, and other entertain-ment activities. The raceway is located on the southern edge of Avondale away from residential areas. White Tanks Regional Park is located west of Litchfield Park. It is named for natural rock water tanks once used by local Indians. Many unusual petroglyphs or rock carvings are found in the 26,000-acre park. Estrella Mountain Regional Park to the south, has 19,000 acres with an 18-hole golf course, as well as camping, horseback riding, hiking and picnic facilities. The wildlife World Zoo, located four miles northwest of Litchfield Park, provides a natural habitat for many endangered species. Each fall, the Estrella Mountain Ranch hosts the annual Cool Desert Jazz Festival, bringing top national and local jazz artists to Goodyear. In the spring, the Phoenix Symphony performs an evening pops concert at Estrella Mountain Ranch. The West Valley Fine Arts Council provides a varied schedule of cultural interests. Duncan's Family Farms offers annual pumpkin festivals, Easter egg hunts and school tours as well as an old-fashioned farmer's market, pick-your-own garden, antique tractor display, and petting zoo. There are numerous golf courses, including the first Jack Nicklaus II signature golf course in Arizona, in the area.
